Gauge Cluster
Our original plan was to use the PTGT gauge cluster since we were using the same computer from the car. After getting the dash cut so it would fit we were off and running. It lit up ONE time and was DEAD we could not get it to work no matter how loud we cussed at it. We debated getting another PT Cruiser cluster but decided to move on to plan B instead and build our own.
Version 1.0 of the custom cluster utilized a couple PLX gauges. This was really just a temporary solution to get things running and make sure that everything was safe while we tested everything else. We ultimately ended up keeping the wideband from PLX but not the OBD2 guage you can see in the pictures.
We really wanted the cluster to look stock so I took the original jeep cluster and cut everything out of the center just keeping the outer frame that mounts to the dash. A little work on a piece of scrap aluminum and I had something to hold the gauges. We really liked the Marshall gauges and ordered a complete kit. Bonus points for them being made in the USA. It was a pretty tight fit but they all fit. I painted the aluminum black installed the gauges and handed it to Nick so he could “make it work”. That is our little joke I’ll make it fit, he makes it work. 🙂
One of the great things about the Marshall Gauges is the speedometer. It has a learn mode that allows you to change the calibration in 1 minute or less, depending on how fast you can make it a mile! To re-calibrate you simply click the calibration button and drive exactly 1 mile and you are done. Makes switching out taller or shorter tires a breeze.
